Upon arrival in Tel Aviv I was met at the end of the jetway by Marvin who whisked me to the tarmac by elevator to an awaiting VIP van who then deposited me at customs. First of all, you fill out no customs forms at all because you are already vetted before you arrive. Then to get my suitcase and meet my driver, Joseph who then drove me to the Norman Hotel right in the middle of Tel Aviv. This is a new hotel that has been converted from an historical building and it is lovely as are the people working here.
After I checked into my room, which was ready and I was thrilled it was because I got here before noon, I was off for a walk down Rothschild Boulevard ( the main Blvd Of Tel Aviv). There is an esplanade in the middle for walkers and for bicycles . Quite lovely!
The Blvd is lined by trees and very shady. Bikes on the left and walkers on the right. I walked all the way to the beach, stopped for a coffee at an outdoor cafe and then back to the hotel. It was a couple of miles walk but good after the long airplane ride.
My traveling companions are not arriving until later this evening and so I will have more tomorrow.
