Bamberng

 On Tuesday, May 12th we arrived Bamberg in the afternoon.  We were late because of the locks. You will see how close we have gotten to the top of the locks.  It is just incredible how these ships maneuver the rivers when the rivers are high. We are very close to the top of the lock.  Look closely and you will see the Captain's head looking out of the top of the wheel house.  The wheel house in on hydraulics.

 Now we are heading from the River Main to the Main-Danube Canal. We are going to the right

 Bamberg is a gem of Franconia.  This city was not bombed during WWII because it had no significant river, airport or river access . Therefore it s a mixture of old and new and very beautiful.  It is also the home of Bosch. 

The skyline is dominated by the cathedral of St. Peter and St. George, which combines the late Romanesque and early French-Gothic styles. Inside is the man on horse 
 which s carved out of stone into the columns and the crypt of the Emperor and Empress.

 This also  the time of the white asparagus!!!

There is a statue of Neptune in the square but our guide told us everyone calls him the man with the fork!

 Off to Nuremberg.  We are going shopping today.  Had enough of WWII, churches and medieval cities.
